WHAT WE STAND FOR
OUR CORE VALUES: HOW WE CAN WAKE UP AND STOP GENOCIDE
After the Holocaust, the world made the promise to "Never Again" allow genocide to occur. Unfortunately, genocide, the deliberate killing of a large group of people due to ethnicity or race, is still happening around the world. The key ingredient to genocide is hate. Our core values are encompassed in the call to “WAKE UP” which consists of 6 actions we need to take to stop the spread of hate.
WITNESS
We can be witnesses by hearing, reading, and sharing survivor and rescuer accounts of what happened.
ACT WITH TACT
Treating others with Acceptance, Compassion and Tolerance. This is our motto! Click above to learn more about how we incorporate this into our education.
KNOW
Learn the facts about the Holocaust. Today there are people called ‘Holocaust Deniers’ who try to persuade people that the Holocaust didn’t happen, or happened on a much smaller scale so they can continue to preach their breed of hate. However, plenty of hard evidence exists to the truth. Knowing this truth helps combat hate and intolerance.
EMPATHIZE
To empathize means putting yourself in the shoes of those being mistreated. Understanding what others are going through helps you make the right moral choices. "Empathy is about standing in someone else's shoes, feeling with his or her heart, seeing with his or her eyes." - Daniel Pink
UPSTAND
An upstander stands up against injustice and intolerance. Don’t stand idly by when injustice is being done. “The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch and don’t do anything.” – Albert Einstein
PREVENT
Prevent genocide by calling attention when state sponsored persecution of minority groups takes place by restricting rights of citizens, and other forms of dehumanization! Join an social justice group to help make your voice heard. Some resources include Genocide Watch, Stand Now, AEGI Trust, AJWS, and Enough Project.
“We can make a difference. We can save lives. We can stop the genocide” - Kendrick Meek
“Your visit to CHAIM is your WAKE UP CALL! You have now become a ‘Witness’, are inspired to promote ‘Acceptance’, have the ‘Knowledge’ of the facts, understand the importance of ‘Empathy’, and know how to be an ‘Upstander’ to try to ‘Prevent’ the hate that leads to genocide.”
